First Fall Freeze

It was near 40 degrees when I got up this morning. That's chilly for early October, but it's not even close to the coldest on that date. But let's talk earliest freezes. According to the data here, the historical earliest Fall freeze in Athens is Oct. 9, 2000. That's my news hook, as Oct. 9 will be this Thursday. That said, if you skim that web page, you'll see most of the earliest freezes occur later in October, or in November, or even as late as December 6 in one year. The average date for Athens' first freeze is Nov 7, so don't let this bit of cool air cause any panic. All is well.
