Was It That Bad?

The 2000s were the worst decade in 50 years?  Apparently so, according to a Pew report, which states that "By roughly two-to-one, more say they have a generally negative (50%) rather than a generally positive (27%) impression of the past 10 years."

Now that I look back, I'd have to agree.  Just look at the table below, from the report.  You've got 9/11, you've got Katrina, and you've got The Great Recession.  Good riddance, indeed.

I'd have to say that I was no real fan of that decade either, but I'd be willing to bet I'll change my mind later. Seems to me that we tend to see the present in negative terms while nostalgia rules the past. I could think of some terrible things that dominated other decades over the last 50 years, but those days seem so pleasant to people now.

What's scary is that twenty or thirty years from now, someone will talk about how the "aughts" were the best music decade ever.
